Winners of the last Maxis eKelas HIP (Highly Immersive Program) Storyfest Competition in English took home the rewards of improving their English proficiency and gaining confidence, in addition to impressive prizes including smartphones, tablets, headphones and gift sets with exclusive eKelas products. A total of 30 students won the competition which tested participants’ English skills through storytelling and writing.
“The eKelas HIP Storyfest competition is one of many initiatives offered by eKelas to inspire students to improve in their academic subjects in a fun and engaging way. We are proud to see more and more students participating in the competition every year, which has grown from 1,800 submissions when it launched in 2019 to over 3,500 last year. We would like to congratulate all of our winners who have shown a desire to learn and grow. We will continue to deliver the best digital content to more students through our eKelas program and keep them always one step ahead,” said Mariam Bevi Batcha, General Affairs Manager at Maxis.
Launched to all students in grades 4-5 in schools nationwide in 2019, the annual eKelas HIP English language competition provides students with access to virtual coaching through content, workshop and practice that aims to strengthen their confidence, while the Abang Portal (Community Manager) helps students with questions and content advice. The competition exposes students to a blended and interactive experience, while helping them adapt to the new normal of virtual learning.
HIP was introduced by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in 2016 with the aim of improving students’ English proficiency by increasing their exposure to the language through a variety of in-class and out-of-class activities. Since 2019, eKelas has been recognized by the MoE under its HIP. Students who participate in the competition can collect extracurricular grades at the national level which are included in their school certificate.
eKelas is Maxis’ flagship community program that provides access to quality educational content in line with the Malaysian curriculum. Currently focusing on science, math and English, students are exposed to experiential learning through a combination of live tutorials, group learning, competitions as well as access digital content via the eKelas portal and app. eKelas today offers a comprehensive digital learning experience, including opportunities for students to participate in campaigns such as STEM competitions for coding, creative thinking and design skills, essay writing competitions and the annual Anugerah Gemilang.
